Shorter Michigan Republicans: WAAAAAAAAAAAH!

I almost feel for the US automotive industry. I equate their leadership and marginalization to Black people in America today. Yay you! You did something great 40 years ago, but what about today? Are you going to keep moving forward or will you rest on your laurels for another 40 years?

You have your lobbyist in Washington and you get to write legislation. You own Congresspeople. Everything you do is to benefit you. You do nothing to help the American public. Naturally, it’s hard for me to care when Michigan Republicans get pissy because the new energy bill was delivered in a Prius.

The 2008 Chevy Tahoe hybrid was named Green Car of the Year. And you’re telling me that not one Congress critter, aide or Chevy representative thought of using the car? When I read yesterday that a hybrid was going to deliver the bill, I assumed it would be the Chevy. How did all you people who make the big bucks fall down on the job? Sorry, you can get pissy at Toyota, you can be mad at Pelosi, you can whine about it being a slap in the face, but this was on you Michigan.

  1. “You have your lobbyist in Washington and you get to write legislation. You own Congresspeople. Everything you do is to benefit you. You do nothing to help the American public.”

Aside from providing thousands of jobs and cars, you’re right, they do nothing for the American people.

That said, I agree complaining over the use of a Prius was pretty stupid. Then again, the energy bill was pretty stupid too (“Let’s punish the actual producers in this country with further regulations”).

  2. Providing jobs? Um…off the top of my head, I know that over 80K jobs at the Big 3 have been cut since ’05. And just because they give their cars to rental agencies doesn’t mean they’re doing much. Believe me, when I rent cars, which I need to do quite often, I’d much rather be comfortable in a Subaru or Honda than have an aching back and headache from driving a Ford or Chevy.

Point being? Those 80K jobs wouldn’t have existed at all if not for those companies. They made them, and they removed, as was their prerogative.

And that’s your choice. The fact remains, however, that 1) many people still buy cars from the Big 3 (and thus, they serve the public) and 2) those rentals would probably cost a lot more if the Big 3 didn’t provide market competition.

  5. What illogical comment have I made?

You may disagree with my conclusions or my statements, but that’s not sufficient grounds to call me illogical (please, try to be more tolerant and open-minded).
