The Shame of White People

You know how, if a black person or a Latino person does something, that speaks for the entire race? Yet, white people who kill or rob are just bad apples. Imagine if a white person doing something spoke for all white people:

(h/t to Poplicks)

It actually makes me ashamed to be married to a white guy, even though he’s not even from this country.

I don’t even have words for this. It’s just so icky and embarrassing. I just sit here laughing.

  1. I was thinking about this the other day, how Obama’s success in SC was attributed to black voters, but nobody ever mentions white candidates attracting the white vote. This idea that white folks are the neutral or default setting is just wrong.

  2. Haha. I thought this was HILARIOUS. When Anderson Cooper aired this on CNN a couple weeks ago, you could see he was holding back from shouting out a big WTF – and AC is as white as they come.

This is almost as bad as Rush Limbaugh playing “Woop! There It Is” whenever he brought up Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or an black issue a few years ago. Actually, it worse: Rush isn’t a Presidential front runner…

And El Chavo! is spot on. I know people who were supporting Fred Thompson simply because they liked his demeanor, but are vehemently against Obama because they think he’ll be nominated for his color.

  3. If you guys go to BooMan Tribune, The Republic of T or Pam’s Houseblend, Terrance has a very good series on identity politics and how ‘straight, white male’ seems to be the default.

  4. I hadn’t seen this clip – my TV watching is from DVDs usually. I’m speechless.
And yes, ashamed of the people who share my skin color.

    Thanks for the site recommendations.
